Greenslopes hospital- google mapsLast month the federal government announced their budget measures for the upcoming financial year. Among the strategies announced is the government’s intention to sell off crown owned land adjacent to Greenslopes Private Hospital.

The blocks are located on the corner of Newdegate and Headfort Streets, and have previously been leased to Red Cross, who constructed the original buildings onsite in the 1940’s. The government will not list the land immediately, but is currently working through the legal requirements to list the land for sale.

Ramsay Health currently operates Greenslopes Private Hospital following their purchase of the old Greenslopes Repatriation General Hospital in 1995. While Ramsay’s CEO, Tim Daniel, was not previously aware the government land was earmarked for sale, Ramsay Health does have an existing master plan in place for further development within the hospital’s existing footprint, on the opposite side of Newdegate Street.

The government land is zoned for Community Use (CU2), which Brisbane City Council defines as ‘important in developing and maintaining community networks, services, community health and wellbeing’.
