It all started with the big bang…
As Kennard stepped into the spacious apartment, he dropped his first moving box with a satisfied sigh. “Guys, this is it! Our new place.”
Melvin followed behind, carefully carrying a crate labelled “Comics: Handle with Extreme Care.” He adjusted his glasses, taking in the open-plan living area with a look of approval. “Finally, a space with tiled floors that’s easy to clean in case of… unexpected soda eruptions during game night. Also, that kitchen has enough storage for all our snack supplies and, if you’re me, every edition of Batman since 1987.”
Kennard grinned. “Melvin, don’t get too excited. Remember, we still have to decide who gets the master bedroom with the walk-in robe and ensuite. And yes, it’s air-conditioned, for those of us who might need a little extra cooling after, say, an intense Halo session.”
Just then, Viraj strolled in, balancing a telescope and a box labelled “Romantic Movie Collection.” He set them down gently, glancing around with a dreamy look. “Guys, this place is perfect. The carpeted bedrooms are cozy, the balcony is practically begging for some late-night stargazing, and did you see the rooftop terrace? BBQ facilities, city views, and the perfect spot for catching meteor showers.”
Melvin perked up. “Wait—city views? I can think of at least five board games that would be exponentially better played up there. And imagine setting up my model train with the city skyline in the background… It’s practically destiny.”
Kennard rolled his eyes. “Or, you know, we could just have a normal BBQ with burgers and maybe a little Star Wars marathon.”
Viraj gave him a playful nudge. “Fine, but only if we can listen to some of your cello playing between movie scenes. You can pretend it’s the soundtrack.”
Kennard chuckled. “Deal. And speaking of soundtracks, do you hear that?” There was a gentle knock at the door.
The three of them exchanged looks, and Kennard went to open it, revealing Jenny, their new neighbour from across the hall. She was holding a plate of cookies and smiling warmly.
“Hi! I’m Jenny, your neighbour. I heard some, uh, excited chatter and thought I’d bring some cookies as a welcome. Moving day always needs a little extra sugar.”
Viraj’s eyes widened. “Cookies?” He stepped forward, almost in awe.
“Yep,” Jenny replied with a grin. “So, are you three roommates, or is this a science experiment gone wrong?”
Melvin straightened up, about to deliver a detailed explanation. “Actually, Jenny, I’m what you might call an ‘intellectual curator’ with a specialty in Batman, Doctor Who, and Star Trek. My room will double as the HQ for all things sci-fi. And, if you’re interested, we host weekly board game nights.”
Kennard cut in with a smile. “What Melvin’s trying to say is… yes, we’re roommates. Thanks for the cookies.”
Jenny handed over the plate, her gaze drifting to the boxes marked “Comics” and “Telescope.” “Well, I’m right across the hall if you ever need a break from all this… intellectual curating.”
Viraj gave her a shy smile. “Jenny, if you’re up for it, we’d love to have you join us sometime on the rooftop terrace. It has the perfect setup for grilling and stargazing, you know… if you’re into celestial wonders.”
Jenny laughed, raising an eyebrow. “I might just take you up on that. See you guys around!”
As she walked back across the hall, the three friends exchanged a look of triumph. Viraj was the first to break the silence. “I think we’re going to like it here. We’ve got cookies, a rooftop view, and the best setup for a Star Wars, Battlestar Galactica, and BBQ night.”
Melvin nodded, surveying the apartment. “And let’s not forget the secure basement car space for our road trips to the comic book store, the internal laundry for all our superhero T-shirts, and a balcony perfect for debating which DC hero is superior.”
Kennard slung an arm over both of their shoulders. “Alright, geniuses. Let’s get settled in and order some takeout. We’ve got a lot of furniture to place and only a lifetime of movie marathons to break this place in.”
And with that, the three friends had officially moved in, ready to turn 908 Logan Road into their own little corner of the universe.
