Urban Utilities water bill payment for tenants - Jeff Jones Real Estate

Changes To Tenancy Water Charging Laws Effective 30 September 2024

The Stage 2 Rental Law Reforms introduced on 30 September 2024, included two important changes to how water usage is charged to tenants in residential properties.

Our landlord support article has been revised to reflect these important changes. The most notable update is the new requirement to provide tenants with a copy of the original water bill within four weeks of receipt.

The other change clarifies the process for billing tenants for water usage at the start and end of a tenancy.

If you’re a Jeff Jones Real Estate management client, did you know we can facilitate the payment of your Urban Utilities bill from trust funds held on your behalf? This is our preferred approach, especially with the new requirement to provide tenants with the water bill promptly.

For more details on how to ensure your Urban Utilities bill is sent directly to our office for timely processing, please refer to our updated support article.
